Human Trafficking Awareness Team
Please join us, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

“There is no trust more sacred than the one that the world holds with children. There is no duty more important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives are free from want and fear, and that they grow up in peace.” Kofi Annan, Former General Secretary of the United Nations

Who Can Join in This Effort?
All Rotarians and Community members are welcome and needed. This is a big problem and we need everyone to help fight it. You do not have to be a Rotarian to help! But be aware, we might try to recruit you….

Our Team’s Mission
Make children, youth, and adults aware, through education and communication, of predators that target our most vulnerable.

What We Do
We are committed to educate, connect, empower and equip Rotarians and other community members to engage their communities to eradicate all forms of Human Trafficking locally and around the globe.

How We Do It
We are developing a Human Trafficking Awareness Team that includes the use of an exhibition truck and trailer to generate awareness and prevention of this horrific problem. Our plan is to educate, equip, and empower Rotary Clubs and community members throughout Central Texas who are willing to volunteer a few hours to work with the trailer exhibit to help spread awareness.

These volunteers will learn, through education sessions offered by the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center, how to react to questions they may encounter. Volunteers will be asked to complete a short background check and complete an orientation provided by the Rotary Club of Georgetown. They will also be asked to attend (in person or via electronic link) two primary trainings to help them understand the ways to respond to situations and/or questions that may come up.

Why We Do This
Of the many global issues, human trafficking (or modern slavery, as it is sometimes called) is one of the toughest to combat. It’s estimated that more than 40 million people are trafficked across the world. “It’s probably the largest human rights travesty existing today. It’s one of the three largest illegal industries, bringing in about $150 billion in revenue every year. We will connect with other like-minded Rotarians and community members to take action to end human trafficking. Freedom is a basic human right.

We believe that collectively, we have a shared responsibility to take action on our world/s most persistent issues and that the world should be FREE of modern slavery/human trafficking/abuse. Without freedom, individuals and communities cannot achieve basic education, economic development or peace. We believe Rotary Clubs and Districts can work together to promote education, peace, freedom and healing in the world.

How Can You Help?

In order to work on the HTA trailer, volunteers must complete both of the following trainings: Recognizing and Reporting, and Not A Number: Human Trafficking Education. These are offered by the Williamson County Children's Advocacy Center in person and on Zoom at various times.

You may also take the youth protection training offered by the BSA in lieu of the Advocacy Center training. You do not have to be registered with the Scouts to take the training. Go to https://www.scouting.org/training/youth-protection/ Click on training and then create an account.

While the trainings are free of charge, there is a $10 fee to complete your background check. After you send in your completed and signed application, you will be sent a link which will allow you to pay for and complete your background check.
