Dawn Lewis

Terra Clear Foundation

Jan. 31, 2025 12:00 p.m.

Dawn Lewis is dedicated to expanding access to clean drinking water. Over the past six years, she made an impact in Laos, SE Asia, where she led the TerraCare program through TerraClear, providing 10,000 subsidized ceramic filters to vulnerable families in southern Laos, bringing clean drinking water to over 50,000 people. Her commitment extends globally, as she has also contributed to clean water projects in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Currently, Dawn serves as the Executive Director of the TerraClear Foundation, where she secures funding and forges connections that support Lao families to access clean drinking water. Dawn also spent a decade as a teacher in Texas and authored the children’s book “My Teacher Moved to Laos,” which details life in Laos. A Missouri native, Dawn holds a BS Civil Engineering and an MA Linguistics and speaks French and Lao. She enjoys time in nature, and moments with her family, manyof whom reside in Austin, Texas, where Dawn now calls home.

The TerraClear Project is a social enterprise dedicated to improving access to clean drinking water in Laos through the production and distribution of ceramic household water filters. Combining market-based solutions with sustainability principles, TerraClear empowers underserved communities to access safe water while reducing reliance on wood burning for boiling, which helps protect the environment. The initiative integrates local manufacturing, health and hygiene education, and targeted outreach to vulnerable families, creating lasting social and environmental impact. Guided by a collaborative vision, TerraClear partners with local stakeholders, donors, and nonprofits to expand its reach and promote sustainable development.

Dr. Devin Padavil

Georgetown ISD State of the District

Mar. 14, 2025 12:00 p.m.

Dr. Padavil's life was positively changed by the influence of a teacher and assistant principal during difficult moments in his childhood. He believes in the powerful impact of an educator and is honored to spend his career supporting students and staff to improve student learning outcomes.

Dr. Padavil, an educator for 25 years, came to Georgetown in 2023 after serving in Taylor ISD as Superintendent for three years. Before that, he served as Area Superintendent in Leander ISD and Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools in Fort Bend ISD where he supervised 26 middle schools and high schools. He has also served as principal in Pflugerville and Frisco ISDs following several years as a classroom teacher.

Dr. Padavil holds a Bachelor of Science in Middle School Education from Illinois State University, a Master of Education in Administration and a Doctor of Education from The University of Texas — Austin.

It is important to Dr. Padavil that all educators serve authentically through their uniquely defined purpose. His purpose is for every child to grow as his own. He has two children: his daughter studies physics at Texas A&M University and his son is finishing high school. His family is excited to be part of the Georgetown community.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed building-delivery

Apr. 04, 2025 12:00 p.m.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) organization with a national reach, whose mission is to end childhood bedlessness. By providing handmade wood bed frames and a brand new mattress and bedding at no cost, SHP ensures that children can rest soundly, leading to better physical and mental health. The Georgetown chapter was formed five years ago and has already provided over 400 beds to families in Williamson County.  You are invited to join in this mission by participating in a bed build day event, by delivering beds to families in Williamson County, and by supporting bedding drives.

Ben Lake has been volunteering with the Georgetown chapter of SHP since its inception. He manages their social media presence and enjoys telling others about the heart-warming mission of this organization. Professionally, Ben runs a local technology company.  He and his wife reside in Georgetown, along with their two children.
